The Mason County Department of Public Works is responsible for the care and maintenance of the Mason County Sewage Disposal System. This system provides sewer service to businesses and homes that are located on US 10 between the cities of Scottville and Ludington. A line has also been established to serve West Shore Community College located on North Stiles Road.

This office is also in charge of the post-closure care of the Mason County Landfill in Scottville and the Pere Marquette Landfill. Since the closing of these two landfills, the DPW maintains the sites and oversees the monitoring activities as required by applicable laws.
