Starting a Case (Support, Custody, or Divorce)
Depending on the type of case you are trying to create, there are different ways in which a case can be made.

Support
If you are on public assistance:
  • Contact your DHHS worker.
  • Fill out the IV-D form and mail it to the address on the form.
  • Apply on the website.
If the parents were not married:
  • Follow the instructions for custody and file a motion for child support.
Custody
If the parents were not married:
Divorce
If the parents were married:
  • Go to www.michiganlegalhelp.org
    • In search - search for divorce
      • Find and follow directions in the Do-It-Yourself toolkit for divorce
